Junior High School Class Descriptions
Junior High Students can take Section A and/ or Section B classes. They will automatically be enrolled in the Wednesday
afternoon Bible class.
SECTION A: MORNING CLASSES (FULL YEAR): $555/sem plus books (see book list)
8th Grade Science: Students will study Space and Earth Science using Bob Jones University Press to examine God's
handiwork, including the sun, moon stars, planets, asteroids, comets, and meteors. Students will see the perfection of God's
design in a study of the earth, including the atmosphere, the lithosphere, and the hydrosphere. (see book list)
Prerequisites: 7th Grade Science (see book list)
Lab Fee: $15/sem
7th Grade Science: Students will do a thorough study of Life Science using Bob Jones University Press with an emphasis
on Bible integration and compliance with national and state science standards, enhanced appendices on classification
and biomes, and an expanded glossary and index. (see book list)

8th Grade English: This course provides students with a strong overall English study using literary works as the basis for
reading, writing, discussion, and vocabulary. Special attention will be given to grammar and sentence structure for
preparation for high school using Bob Jones Writing and Grammar. (see book list)
Prerequisites: 7th Grade English
7th Grade English: This course will equip students to transition from elementary school into junior high school and focus
on language structure and writing skills. Students will read literature, study vocabulary and continue with grammar
using Bob Jones Writing and Grammar. (see book list)
Prerequisites: none
Pre-Algebra: This course will introduce high school students to the beginning concepts of algebra and algebraic
expressions using the Bob Jones Pre-Algebra. (see book list)
Prerequisites: 7th Grade Math
7th Grade Math: Students will master math fundamentals to prepare them to move into algebra and the higher math
courses using Bob Jones Fundamentals of Math. (see book list)

SECTION B CLASSES: AFTERNOON CLASSES - $445/ semester plus books (see book list); other electives may
be offered for spring semester
4th Hour 7th -8th World History and Geography (Social Studies subject): Students will world history and world
geography, including map skills and memorization, in a context of learning about different cultures.

5th Hour Prophetic Art (1st semester): Students will be exposed to different works of art - learning about style,
composition and technique. Students will practice fundamentals as well as learn more about what “prophetic
art” is and how God uses it. This is a hands-on class with a wonderful artist who will be teaching. We hope to
be able to do some city displays as well. (Previous art experience is not required.)

5th Hour Elective – Choir: This is a mixed choir (boys and girls). Students will sing different styles of music,
learn some basic sight-reading and pitch skills and perform at the end of the semester. (Previously choir
experience is not a pre-requisite, however a 30 second song will be sung individually the first day of class to
ensure pitch-blending. )

6th Hour Elective – Web Design and Video Broadcasting - This class will be a hands-on website building class
incorporating topics like the following:
• Building a Website as a platform on which to broadcast
• Web Terminology
• Basic Editing - as much as I can teach without the students having the actual software
• Filming techniques
• Story Board ie: Planning the Broadcast and Writing a Script
• Film and Sound
• Broadcasting on the Web - ie: on the student's websites
• Lighting
• Green Screen and Backgrounds
• Producing a DVD

6th Hour Elections and Current Events - This class will equip students with a basic understanding of how our
election process works, including watching the elections this fall and also doing a mock school election
complete with campaign speeches and voting! Also some general current events will be covered as well.

Current Event Resource Fee: $20
BIBLE
On Wednesday afternoons, students will learn different methods to study the Bible including topical studies,
word studies, passage studies, etc. Some class time will focus on different key themes in the Word that are
relevant to what God is speaking to our students. Memorization will also be included.
